Our 2020 Non-event option
We have had several British Motorcar Enthusiasts express their sadness that British Invasion 2020 was cancelled by the Town of Stowe. This said, without question the health and well being of our attendees is of paramount importance.
So, we have given some thought to the situation and are now in the exploratory stages of suggesting a “British Invasion - NON Event Weekend”, presently proposed for September 11th to 13th 2020 for those with an interest in bringing their British Motorcar to Stowe, Vermont on what would have been British Invasion XXX Weekend.
We value your feedback and will use it as our guide to moving forward with this concept or not? We do not need a commitment, there are no fees involved, we just need your input.
The Concept
To kick off the weekend the Stoweflake Resort will offer a 25% discount on rooms, including breakfast for two. There is NO Registration Fee, NO Car Show, NO Awards, just a few fellow British Car Enthusiasts coming to Stowe on the same weekend. Friday is check-In and perhaps we might just encounter you in the “Baggy Knees” at Charlie B’s, from a respectable distance?
On Saturday we propose a 65 to 70 mile round trip Road Tour to one of 3 or 4 destinations: possibly a NE Kingdom Tour; a Shelburne Tour; a Lake Champlain / Basin Harbor Tour; or an East of Eden Tour (North of Stowe) all on paved roads?
Most of what I have detailed below is longer. In very rough number the drive time and distances could be as follows:
Eden, VT - 20.9 Miles / 29 Minutes
Shelburne, VT - 39.8 Miles / 47 Minutes
NE Kingdom/St. Johnsbury - 48.9 Miles / 1 hr 7 Minutes
Vergennes, VT (Basin Harbor) - 55.4 Miles / 1 Hr 8 Minutes
We have a local volunteer who will be mapping out route options. Once finalized, we will provide turn by turn directions upon Check-In. Depending on the destination selected and our ability to develop a turn by turn tour program stops along the route might include a Museum, a Vineyard or other attractions with a possible lunch destination as well. We would provide a short list of restaurants to choose from on Saturday evening, where social distancing is included. The Stoweflake, “Charlie B’s” might offer some British Favorites as well. (Beef Wellington, Shepherd’s Pie; and/or Bangers & Mash).
The concept is to present an enjoyable route that might include a suggested lunch stop, time to explore and visit and still get back to Stowe with time to freshen up for Saturday Dinner, somewhere.
On Sunday Morning we can meet at the Stowe High School and carry on the tradition of the “Notch Run,” which is a 70 minute run time driving tour that takes us over Smugglers Notch. As has been the case for the past 29 years my ‘47 Bentley would lead the way and bring you back to Stowe. If a Sunday morning Run is not of interest you can opt to sleep in or get an early start for home.
Everything is pay as you go, since this is a “British Invasion, NON-Event”.
We are open to suggestions and most importantly would like to know who might be interested in participating in this weekend.
We will be checking to see what requirements the State and/or Town of Stowe may have for out of state visitors as well and the state of COVID-19 before moving forward.
Should be a “Jolly Good Time!”
